The Wording on a Lanyard

June 10, 2012

Many companies choose to create lanyards as part of an advertizing campaign. If this is your reason for designing a lanyard then it is vital that you learn how to make the most of the cord. Below are a few ideas about how to design an effective lanyard cord.

One of the things that should be included on the cord is a way for people seeing the item to know who made it. Most companies choose to have their name on the lanyard. This is obviously the easiest and simplest means of recognition. However, it is not enough just to have the name printed on. The name of the business should be written on using the same style of font and style of lettering that a company uses on all of their items. The coloring of the lettering should also be the same as that which is used on everything which the company uses. This includes business cards, signage and stationary.

A logo is another way for people to recognize who designed the lanyard. If your business has an established logo, then the logo by itself may be sufficient. However, if the company is relatively new or the logo is a new one then an alternative would be to have both the name and the logo on the ribbon.

The lanyard can also be utilized as a means of telling potential clients how they can contact you. In today’s world there are a number of different ways to reach any business. What you have to do is determine not only how you want to be contacted but how your clients will want to get a hold of you. For some businesses this means having the physical address of the company on the cord, for others may prefer that their customers reach them via email or their website.

Slogans and taglines are often included on lanyards. Taglines are frequently utilized as part of an effective advertizing campaign. People often remember catchy slogans for years. If you are thinking of including a tagline on the cord, you should think about the length of the slogan. A lanyard is designed to worn around an individual’s neck and if your slogan is a long one it might not be visible when the cord is being worn. An alternative would be to select a few words which best describe your business. You might want to think about using words which represent your company’s beliefs and practices. For example you could select words like reliable, dependable, guaranteed etc.

To make an effective lanyard you have to think carefully of what you want from it. A few wise choices during the design stage can make the difference between a successful lanyard and a failure.
