Types of Lanyards

June 14, 2011

Have you ever had to stand in a long line simply because the people in front of you are taking an extremely long time to find their proofs of identity or have you yourself ever held up a queue because you cannot find a way to show your identity even though you know that the proof is somewhere in your bag or purse? If you have then you know how much time can be wasted in looking for something which is lost or misplaced only because you did not store it properly. It is surprising that man has solved all types of major problems like providing food, air and water to people but still has not done anything to ensure that things stay in place. However, this is not the case because lanyards are specifically designed to resolve such problems. There are mainly four different types of lanyards. The following are details.

1. Plain lanyards:
Plain lanyards, as the name suggests, are the most simple or elementary form of lanyards. These are simple cords, rope or strings with no image, design or printing on them. Furthermore, they are usually a single color and without any kind of frills. As a result of their simplicity and mainly functional nature, they tend to be on the cheaper side of the spectrum. This means that they are perfect for small scale companies, events and shops looking to give a few employees easily accessible proofs of identity, keys and any use that the person in charge can come up with.

2. Badge lanyards:
Badge lanyards are lanyards that have been specially created for the purpose of holding badges or identity cards of employees. These badges are usually produced as a part of a large contract particularly sanctioned by the company in question. Consequently, badge lanyards tend to be printed and carry the company’s logo or name on the cord with there being a latch or buckle in the end where the identity card will be clipped. It is also worth mentioning that these are often designed to hold biometric cards as well.

3. Beaded lanyards:
Beaded lanyards are primarily the more stylish version of the previously mentioned lanyards. They can range from being economically stylish to being exorbitantly stylish. Owing to their specific characteristics, these lanyards are used by people not only looking for functionality but also style. The bead nature of the lanyard can be created by the use of all types of techniques and materials. Moreover, these types of lanyards can be used for holding a variety of things safe like cameras, USB pen drives, cell phones, wallets and anything else that may be possible.

While the aforementioned categories should cover most of the varieties of customized lanyards, they can still fall short of including all types. Furthermore, some lanyards may fall into more than one category owing to overlapping qualities. This variation has been further augmented by the arrival and dominance of the internet which has allowed infinite possibilities with respect to the variety of lanyards.
